What is a digital business card
It does the same job as a paper card —introducing you and making sure your contact isn’t lost— but without printing: it never runs out, it doesn’t go out of date when your phone number or job title changes, and you can send it remotely.
At businesscards.eco we call it an eCard, and the screen with its QR code a QCard.
How it works
- You show the QR code. You open your QCard on your phone and the other person scans it with their camera.
- Your card opens. Your eCard appears in their browser, with your brand, photo and details. In Express mode the contact is inside the QR code and saves even offline.
- They save your contact. With the “Save contact” button, your details go to their contacts as a vCard, the standard format iPhone and Android understand.
- They send you their contact. From your eCard they message you by WhatsApp or email with the greeting already written, and you get their number or email too.
Remotely, you send the link instead of the QR code: by AirDrop between iPhones, WhatsApp, Telegram, email or by pasting it into a signature or profile.
What a good digital business card should include
- Your name, job title and photo, so people recognise you.
- Phone, email and WhatsApp, each one tap away.
- A button to save the contact to the address book.
- An easy way for them to send you their contact, for example a WhatsApp message with the greeting already written.
- Your professional social networks (LinkedIn and any others you use) and your company website.
- Your address with a Google Maps link, if you receive visitors.
- Your brand identity: logo, colours and font.
- Optionally, a document (presentation or catalogue) for anyone who wants to know more.
NFC card or QR card: the differences
NFC cards are physical cards with a chip: you tap them on a compatible phone and they open a link. Digital cards with a QR code don’t need anything physical: the QR code is shown on your phone screen and any camera can scan it.
| businesscards.eco eCard | NFC card | Paper card | |
|---|---|---|---|
| The other person needs… | Their phone camera or a link | A phone with NFC switched on | To type your details by hand |
| Saving the contact | One button, straight to contacts | Depends on the service | By hand |
| Sending it remotely | Yes: AirDrop, WhatsApp, Telegram, email or link | Only if the service has a link | No |
| You get their contact | Yes: they message you by WhatsApp or email with one tap | Depends on the service | Only if they give you theirs |
| Changing a detail | Instantly, no reprint | Depends on the service | Reprint the batch |
| What you carry | Just your phone | The physical card | The cards |
| Cost | From 14 € a year, VAT not included | A fee per physical card, plus the service | Every print run |
A QR code works with virtually any current phone and, on top of that, the same card can be sent as a link. That’s why businesscards.eco goes for QR codes and links, with no physical cards.
How to create your digital business card in 5 steps
- Choose a plan. The Personal Plan (14 € a year plus VAT) includes one eCard; the eCards Team Plan (49 € a year plus VAT), up to 5 people in one brand.
- Sign up with your email. You get a 6-digit code: no passwords. The dashboard is in Spanish for now.
- Add your details. Photo, job title, phones, email, WhatsApp, social networks and your company details.
- Give it your look. Header, colours, logo and font, with a preview before activating it.
- Share it. Show your QCard’s QR code, send it by AirDrop, send the link or add it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Digital business cards for companies
In a company, digital cards solve two problems of paper: an inconsistent image across people, and cards that go out of date. The design is decided once and every card follows it; people are added and removed from a dashboard, and a leaver’s card stops opening that same day.
Groups with several brands or offices can organise them into brands and sub-brands, with as many levels as they need. For example, a hotel chain: the parent company, its brands below, each brand with its regions and each region with its hotels. Each level can have its own design or inherit the one above, and each manager sees everything under them.
For large companies, integration with the ERP (SAP or others) or the employee directory can also be studied, so that new starters, leavers and job titles come through automatically. See the solution for companies.
How much does a digital business card cost
It depends on the service: some charge once for a physical card, others work by subscription. At businesscards.eco pricing is yearly and there are no physical cards:
- Personal Plan: 14 € a year, VAT not included (1 person).
- eCards Team Plan: 49 € a year, VAT not included (up to 5 people in one brand).
- More than 5 people, large companies or several offices and brands: tailored proposal.
Frequently asked questions
Does a digital business card replace a paper one?
For most uses, yes: you show it with a QR code in person and send it with a link remotely, and the other person saves the contact with one button. Some people keep a few paper cards for specific situations.
Do you need an app to read a digital card?
No. The cameras on current phones read QR codes directly and the card opens in the browser.
What is a vCard?
It is the standard contact file format that iPhone, Android and email programs understand. The eCard’s “Save contact” button downloads your vCard so it can be added to the address book.
Can it be used without internet?
With the QCard’s Express mode, yes: the contact is inside the QR code. The full card page needs a connection.
How do I get the contact of the person I give my card to?
When they open your eCard, they tap the WhatsApp button and the greeting is already written: they send it and you have their number. Email works the same way. So the exchange goes both ways, which a paper card cannot do.
How much does it cost?
The Personal Plan costs 14 € a year and the eCards Team Plan, for up to 5 people in one brand, 49 € a year, VAT not included. For more than 5 people or several brands we prepare a proposal.
